The Beginning: An Idea Sparks! Homeschool Coop.

for... High Schoolers.

I'm April... aka Director April... Aka Administrative Teacher April, and I'm the one with the idea that sparked the creation of Grace Academy Co-op.

Three things were notable in the initiative of this BRAND NEW coop:

[1] After starting out homeschooling journey in 2022, it became very evident that there are so... soooo many homeschool coops, events, and activities for younger kiddos but a lack of events for the teenagers.

It's like once our kids turn 13, people don't think they'd like to do a craft at the Parthenon anymore (<--- totally random and spontaneous example... but I'm 40ish and I'd love to do a craft at the Parthenon... how is there an age limit on that?!).

[2] Despite having to dig, I was actually successful in finding a lot of outside field trips, groups, and clubs that interested my teen. Some of which have been a pure blessing and delight to us! However, in teenage angst, my daughter made it known that it wasn't the same as she experienced via public school and she wanted to go back. Discussing the issue deeper, I mean truly digging into her deepest emotions and desires, I learned that what she missed about public school was knowing, and growing up with, the exact same students year after year. The revolving different students varying from club to club just didn't provide her with the same "high school atmosphere" of knowing all your classmates and being connected to him for eternity. Well... maybe eternity is a stretch. Or... maybe not. #JustRememberedIhaveahighschoolreunioncomingupmustloseweight

[3] Then, the final spark of electricity to light the bulb happened. I was in one of the homeschool support groups on Facebook, and I saw one of the admin's post that the area needs more coops. More coops, eh...

It dawned on me; I used to be the President of a National Mom's Club and the founder of another one. Heck, I've been the director of schools, leader of groups, founder of many different things, and involved in everything I can be basically my entire life. I love organizing stuff! Just as much as I love teaching stuff! Starting a new group was definitely in the realm of things that I can do! And so it began, I started planning.

I'd like a coop that fills in the gap of the lacking teen events and provides the camaraderie of high school.

Thus it begins...

Is this one like the others....? I... have... no... idea.

I admit, I don't know much about Homeschool Coop's. We aren't in another one. Is this one like the others....? I... have... no... idea. I hope it offers some uniqueness. I hope it offers everything that the others offer plus more. And it's not a "join my club or theirs" type of thing. If you like to go-go-go and want to do multiple coops, have at it! But I do hope you'll join mine... well, ours.

What I do know is that I LOVE research & networking. So, I've already met some successful coop founders across the nation and I've been picking their brains. I'm open to your tips and suggestions too.

Let's do this together.

Once we get some homeschool families in the Middle Tennessee together. We can see where everyone is located, what they'd like to achieve from the group, and work together to reach those goals!
